Hottest Wedding Trends for 2017

2017 promises to be an exciting year in weddings with trends such as flamboyant florals, opulent-yet-industrial venues, stunning hanging installations and more, according to the more than 50 highly respected wedding experts who contributed to the third annual International Wedding Trends Report.

Here is a taste of what you can expect to be the hottest wedding trends for 2017!

Oversize Flowers are Everywhere

Big, oversize flowers are making waves this year. They are all over the runways as floral print bridesmaid dresses, huge embellishments on bridal gowns, and in fabulous avant garde accessories like crowns and trailing Rapunzel ropes carried instead of bouquets.

Youngsong Martin of Wildflower Linens sees this trend reflected in this year’s top-choice linens, especially in chair covers, Wildflower’s most popular accessories. “They are morphing away somewhat from chic, full-chair slipcovers toward new lines of fanciful chair-back adornments that are outsize fabric floral blossoms, big chair-back buds in full flower that visually create a kind of round-the-table bouquet,” says Martin.

Modern florals, patterns with movement, and softer geometrics,” are big in stationery as well, according to Ceci Johnson of Ceci New York.Garden flowers of all variety are and always will be popular. Peonies dominate, but all florals are loved,” she says.

The Search for Blank-Space Venues

According to Louise Beukes of B. Loved, “Industrial venues are going to be big in 2017, as couples get more adventurous with the rough-luxe look.”

Warehouses, factories and other open-format sites that can be completely transformed are taking the place of rustic barns and other similar spaces.

Hanging Décor

Hanging décor will also be huge in 2017! “We have seen it creep into wedding design over the past few years,” according to Beukes, “but more industrial-style weddings and venues are finally giving couples, planners and stylists the ability to really go wild with this trend!”

Unfamiliar with these over-the-top installations? Beukes suggests envisioning, “hanging wildflower meadows and opulent floral chandeliers!”

Along with these exciting wedding trends, couples will see a focus on natural elements like wood, mosses and greenery in décor, interactive action stations in catering, and high tech advances such as digital mapping in entertainment and drone technology in photography.

2017 is guaranteed to be a dynamic and exciting wedding year.
